Raising the status of stroke

Article Abstract:

The major problems of allocation of funds and public perception of stroke have compounded the issue of death due to stroke and single most common cause of severe disability. Nurses are taking a lead in raising awareness, improving service access, which will ultimately be vital in developing a smooth patient pathway from diagnosis to rehabilitation of patients affected by stroke and additionally the proper allocation of funds will go a long way in achieving this.

Dying with dignity

Article Abstract:

Palliatative care means specialist care provided by specialist nurses to patients with life-limiting diseases. Earlier palliative care was mostly limited to cancer patients but now its scope is widened to include other life-limiting conditions and all patients who are dying should receive end-of-life care and for this, the nurses need to be educated and given special skills to support a patient.

Caring for young adults with dementia

Article Abstract:

A diagnosis of dementia is devastating at any age and around 18,500 people in the UK have dementia diagnosed before the age of 65. NHS Trust's Young Onset Dementia Service is one of a few in the UK specifically caring for people with young-onset dementia which consists of two community mental health nurses, two outreach workers and a consultant in the trust who reviews clients.
