Article Abstract:

United Water Resources Environmental and Safety Compliance Manager Randy Brown explains how the idea for the Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) program was developed. He discloses that the CUSA certification program was launched to recognize the professionalism of safety professionals in the fields of telecommunications, water services, electric and gas. Brown thinks that CUSA will create more responsible safety professionals who are better equipped to formulate and implement utility safety programs.

Public Utilities Section strives for excellence

Article Abstract:

The Public Utilities Section is composed of safety professionals from National Safety Council member utilities and specializes in health and safety issues affecting utility companies. It promotes the pursuit of effective preventive methods to lessen accident and disease incidence within the industry. Under the leadership of a 65-member executive committee, it acts as a venue for gathering new ideas and experiences that will aid the formulation of the content of programs, workshops and publications.

Environmental Health Center: making a difference in people's lives

Article Abstract:

The Environmental Health Center of the National Safety Council is known for its public-service broadcasts in areas ravaged by calamities, such as flood. In April 1997, the center teamed up with Finger Lakes Production Company, Inc. to air a one-minute flood recovery update in areas severely affected by flooding. The update aimed to notify residents on safe and responsible ways of dealing with flood-related problems, such as exposure to harmful chemicals and electrocution.
