Reports on calcium antagonists may raise patients' BP
Article Abstract:
A report on a University of Washington study that associated the use of calcium-channel blockers with heart attack risk prompted widespread concern among hypertensive patients. The American Heart Association and other health organizations issued special advisories urging patients to keep taking calcium-channel blockers, noting that the risk for individuals is quite low. Medical experts observe that initial news reports about the heart attack risk were misleading or incomplete.

Health on the outskirts
Article Abstract:
Health care services in rural America are in jeopardy. Distance and isolation, physician and medical personnel shortages, hospital closings and reimbursement inequities are among the problems facing rural communities and health care providers. Rural America is facing a shortage of 2,225 primary care physicians, according to a report from the National Health Service Corp. Proposed cuts in Medicare and Medicaid programs will have disproportionate effects on rural health care.

Article Abstract:
The American College of Physicians has issued new guidelines stating that cholesterol levels should be screened routinely only for women aged 45-65 and men aged 35-65.
