Sterile condition

Article Abstract:

A survey by North Tyneside General Hospital, England has aimed to promote awareness of sexually transmitted disease (STD) chlamydia trachomatis. A group of secondary school children completed a questionnaire before and after a health education session. Results of the first questionnaire revealed good knowledge of STDs but little knowledge of chlamydia. The second questionnaire revealed greatly improved awareness. In response to the survey the hospital has produced a pocket size yellow information leaflet on chlamydia entitled 'Can Sex Make You Sterile?'

Promoting sexual health to young people to reduce STIs

Article Abstract:

Sexual infections, teenage and unplanned conceptions are usually the main epidemiological indicators of poor sexual health, and statistics show that the UK has the highest number of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) cases in western Europe. Promoting effective condom use, as a proven contra-infection healthcare resource, over and above its contraceptive potential, is a vital element of good holistic care and is a fundamental concept of health promotion and duty of care.
