A randomized trial of letrozole in postmenopausal women after five years of tamoxifen therapy for early-stage breast cancer

Article Abstract:

The drug letrozole may lower the risk of cancer recurrence in women who have surgery for breast cancer and also take tamoxifen for up to five years, according to a study of 5,187 women. Seventy-five women who took letrozole had a cancer recurrence after an average follow-up of 2.4 years compared to 132 women who took a placebo, or inactive substance. The four-year disease-free survival rate was 93% in the letrozole group and 87% in the placebo group.
