The patient as ally--Learning the pelvic examination
Article Abstract:
Many medical students rarely get an opportunity to perform a pelvic examination, either because their instructors are reluctant to ask patients if a medical student can examine them or because the patients decline. One way to address the problem is clear communication between the students, who must learn to respect and appreciate the patients who help them hone their skills, and the patients who can become partners in the education of physicians.
