Time to build a better board - but how?
Article Abstract:
A Public Citizen's Health Research Group report on state medical boards reveals a big discrepancy in the way state boards discipline their physicians. The report finds that the top state boards are 20 times more likely to take disciplinary actions than low-ranked boards. Alaska, Oklahoma and Iowa had the most disciplinary action per 1,000 doctors, with rates of 18.02, 17.47 and 11.63, respectively. Rhode Island and South Dakota had the lowest action rates among states.

School still in for developers of report cards on health plans
Article Abstract:
The National Committee for Quality Assurance is offering data to help employers choose a health plan. The data, known as the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set, includes over 60 performance measures judging factors such as quality, patient access and satisfaction. However, although many plans measure such performance, they collect their data using different methodologies. As a result, it is difficult to use this data to measure the plans against each other.
