Traditional healers in Southern Africa
Article Abstract:
Some of the practices of South African healers could be used in a traditional Western medical setting. A researcher interviewed six South African healers, including Rae Graham. The healers consider the patient's social and psychological problems as well as the physical illness. They believe that the mind plays an important role in healing the body. They engage in an extended dialogue with the patient and often ask the patient to come back for several visits before making a diagnosis. They use their intuition and ask for spiritual guidance from their ancestors.

The glycaemic index of potatoes: the effect of variety, cooking method and maturity
Article Abstract:
There is no statistically significant difference in the glycaemic index (GI) of Pontiac, Sebago and Desiree potatoes. Cooking methods do not appear to affect GI. This research has confirmed that potatoes have very high GI values, regardless of their variety, cooking method or maturity. Present nutritional advice indicating that consumption of starchy foods such as potatoes should be increased may thus produce a diet with raised glycaemic load and bring a greater risk of non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus.
