This article discusses the National Institutes of Health's attempts to recruit more women as subjects in clinical research. Issues discussed include unequal representation in research, the different physiological response of male and female subjects, and the institutes attempts to change its policy.

US Congressional budget FY01: from radiology to drug returns

Article Abstract:

The US Congress has allocated $20.3 bil for the National Institutes of Health over a 5-year period beginning in 2001, $1.5 mil more than President Bill Clinton requested. Congress has directed establishing a National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Engineering, and increased funds for radiology and minority health research.

Fifteen-year follow up for gene therapy patients

Article Abstract:

The group advising the United State Food and Drug Administration has proposed safety rules for the clinical trial patients. The patients participating in the trials of technique should be subjected to a 15-year follow-up period and the trial data should be recorded more accurately.
