Underrepresentation of renal disease in randomized controlled trials of cardiovascular disease

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to quantify the representation of patients with renal disease in randomized controlled trials for interventions proven efficacious for cardiovascular disease. It was found that major cardiovascular disease trials frequently exclude patients with renal disease and do not provide adequate information on the renal function of enrollees or the effect of interventions on patients with renal disease.

Kidney paired donation and optimizing the use of live donor organs

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine the potential impact of improved matching schemes on the number and quality of transports achievable with kidney paired donation. The results suggest that optimized matching priorities provides patients with the flexibility of customizing their matching priorities and the security of knowing that the greatest number of high-quality matches would be found and distributed equitably.

Clinical results from transplanting incompatible live kidney donor/recipient pairs using kidney paired donation

Article Abstract:

The feasibility and effectiveness of kidney paired donation (KPD) for the management of patients with incompatible donors were determined. Evidence suggests that recipients with incompatible live donors, even those with rare blood type combinations, can receive transplants through KPD with graft survival rates equivalent to directed, compatible liver donor transplants.
