Weaned from the needle

Article Abstract:

Clinicians administered antibodies and other protein-based drugs intravenously for years since they were thought to become ineffective when administered orally because of degradation in the digestive system. New findings in mice suggest that oral delivery of anti-CD-3 could prove a useful approach because of the simplicity of the method and the presumed good tolerability of the antibodies, which make it attractive for the treatment of inflammatory T cell-mediated diseases.

A Toll-like trigger for autoimmune disease

Article Abstract:

Signals through Toll-like receptors (TLRs), which recognize viruses and other pathogens, exacerbate the autoimmune disease in a mouse model. The results strengthen the notion that viral triggers could help set off autoimmune disease and also provide a basis for the findings at a molecular level.

TGF-beta-dependent mechanisms mediate restoration of self-tolerance induced by antibodies to CD3 in overt autoimmune diabetes

Article Abstract:

CD3-specific antibodies are known for their capacity to restore self-tolerance in developed autoimmunity. The intriguing tolerance effect of CD3-specific antibodies has been discussed.
