Manufacturing seniority, strategy and innovation
Article Abstract:
The differences in the speed and success of new product developments in companies within the same industry are influenced by the management strategies used by each firm. Three factors that contribute to the success of new product devleopment include the seniority of manufacturing personnel within the firms, the commitment given by these senior managers to the entire new product devleopment process, and the use of an effective manufacturing strategy essential to the overall business plan.

Complexities of collaborative product development
Article Abstract:
Collaborative ventures may not always remedy problems encountered during product development. On the contrary, survey results suggest that collaboration can make the product development process more costly, time consuming, inefficient and hard to manage. When entering into such arrangements, therefore, paying attention to management issues and unpredictable factors surrounding collaboration is crucial.

"Requirements capture": theory and practice
Article Abstract:
Difference was noted with regards to requirements capture approach used by companies to manage the front end of their new product development (NPD) process. In the case of an automotive firm investigated, market research agencies are used as input into the NPD process. In the case case of a computing firm, a cross-disciplinary approach is used for idea capture and requirements capture.
