Mismanaging innovation: the Yugo car enterprise (1962-1992)
Article Abstract:
Poor decisions by managers heavily influenced by local authorities caused the serious problems that have befallen Yugoslav car manufacturer Crvena Zastava since it abandoned its position as a supplier of cars to the heavily protected domestic and Comecon markets in 1978. Zastava's decision to compete in international markets entailed massive investment, but there were few buyers for the company's poorly-built, low-priced Yugo cars. Zastava also made a mistake in abandoning its reliance on Fiat technology in favor of developing its own production technology.

Partnering and knowledge transfer in the U.K. motor industry
Article Abstract:
Technology collaboration agreements seem to be underused and unappreciated by several firms in the UK's automotive industry. Successful exchange of knowledge, process and materials technology encourages the development of technology that would meet the demands of clients. However, suppliers and customers lack the willingness to participate in such partnerships due to their lack of appreciation of the difficulties of working together. Managerial attitude and effort is necessary to make technology partnerships work.

Planet Earth and automobiles, with special reference to the Indian automobile industry
Article Abstract:
Automobiles have greatly contributed to the deterioration of the air quality in India. Air pollution is mainly due to the increasing number of motor vehicles, particularly those that are improperly maintained and use leaded fuel. Resolution of the problem can be achieved by treating it as a techno-managerial issue. On the part of automobile manufacturers, effort has to be directed towards research and development so as to formulate actions that will aim to control air pollution.
