The UK's mechanical contractors are currently benefiting from high order levels. They are experiencing a shortage of high quality engineers, but are not particularly concerned about the availability of site labour. They are facing narrow margins and a more competitive tendering climate. Tender prices for mechanical installations rose by no more than 4% in 1998, and are now predicted to rise by between 1.5% and 2% in both 1999 and 2000.
