Pedal pusher
Article Abstract:
Mountain-biker Gao Hongying will represent China in the first Olympic competition in that sport, one she learned in 1994 when officials switched her from her road- and velodrome-racing duties. One of the country's top two female bicyclists, she joined the Liaoning cycling team at age 12, and has since trained for 13 years, rising from her father's Forever bicycle to a $3000 high-tech machine. She is eager to test herself in the Olympics, seeing it as her last, best chance to do so, and is uncertain about her future.
