Gail Devers overcame Graves' disease to win an Olympic gold medal in the 100-meter race in 1992. Devers began suffering symptoms in 1988 and was not able to compete in the Olympics held in Seoul that year, but was not diagnosed until 1990. Her competitive victories are described.

Gwen Torrence has earned several gold medals and world championship titles since 1992 even though she began running competitively in her sophomore year of high school, when her talent as a sprinter was discovered. She deplores use of performance-enhancing drugs.
