Therapeutics: a glimpse of the future
Article Abstract:
Developments in the understanding of the molecular nature of cancers are likely to lead to an innovative new generation of anti-cancer drugs. Researchers are focusing on discovering small-molecule mechanism-based inhibitors that selectively target or starve cancers. However, some researchers believe that cancer will develop resistance to any drug used to treat it, and they feel that research should therefore focus on resistance mechanisms. A pan-cancer drug will not suddenly be developed. Indeed, selective molecular drugs of high therapeutic index will be used against specific solid tumours.

Election polls: the perils of interpretation
Article Abstract:
Opinion polls play a key role in removing strategic information about candidate performance from the control of politicians and placing it in the control of the public. Polls are regarded as precise and accurate, and this prompts journalists to make mistakes, including trying to find deep significance where it probably does not exist. However, the reporting of polls boosts the importance of the public in the political system.
