Michael Rounds, Governor of South Dakota
Article Abstract:
Michael Rounds, the Republican governor of South Dakota, drew national attention in March 2006, when he signed into law a bill that made abortion in his state a felony except when the procedure is necessary to save the life of a pregnant woman. As governor of South Dakota, he increased state aid for local public schools and for public universities and in response to shrinking populations he promoted the 2010 Initiative, a series of specific goals for economic growth and visitor spending in the state.
