Optimizing the accuracy of transvaginal ultrasonography of the endometrium
Article Abstract:
Transvaginal ultrasonography is valuable for evaluating women with abnormal uterine bleeding, and proper technique can improve the accuracy. Ultrasound can detect thickening of the endometrium, the uterine lining, that may indicate disease. Improper measurement is the most common error in applying this technique. The endometrium should be surveyed fully, noting changes in texture as well as thickness. In women receiving hormone replacement therapy, measurements should be made during the same point in the cycle. Ultrasonography can detect disease in the uterus when there are no symptoms.
