Patricia Hill Collins, who is a sociologist, educator and writer, was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on May 1, 1948. She established herself as one of the country's foremost thinkers on the conditions and experiences of African-American women with her first book 'Black Feminist Thought, Knowledge, Consciousness, and the Politics of Empowerment' published in 1990.
