A history of Arlington and the unknown soldiers is recounted. Prominent Americans buried there who are also honored with postage stamps include John F. Kennedy, William H. Taft, Earl Warren, Hap Arnold, and Ignace-Jan Paderewski, who was actually a Polish statesman and composer.

Arlington National Cemetery
Article Abstract:
Arlington National Cemetery in northern Virginia is the burial place of US presidents, explorers, sports heroes and servicemen. It became a cemetery in 1864, when an embittered Union colonel buried thousands of dead soldiers around Robert E. Lee's home, Arlington House.

Arlington National Cemetery

Arlington National Cemetery was established after the Civil War, after thousands of Confederate troops were buried on property owned by Gen Robert E. Lee. Postage stamps issued to commemorate heroes and others buried in the cemetery are described.
