Azerbaijan resumed stamp issues in 1992
Article Abstract:
A history of Azerbaijan is recounted and a description of its geography is given. It was conquered by the Russians in the early 19th century, enjoyed a short-lived independence in 1918 and again became independent in 1991. Its first stamp in 1992 depicts the flag superimposed on a map of the nation.

Makarios III: the Father of independent Cyprus
Article Abstract:
The life and work of Archbishop Makarios is recounted including his relationship with Greece. He became president of Cyprus Dec 1959 on the eve of its independence in 1960. When the Island was split by Turkey he sought to mediate, but died in 1977. A set of five stamps commemorate his death.

Jacob Roggeveen landed on Samoa in 1722
Article Abstract:
Samoa is 2,300 mi southwest of Hawaii and has two countries, independent Samoa in the west and US-dominated Samoa in the east. It has a tropical climate and survives mainly on agriculture. The history of Samoa and Samoan stamp issues are discussed.
