Baldies
Article Abstract:
Atari Interactive's Baldies strategy game features entertaining and humorous game play and an easy-to-use interface but is burdened because the game's goal provides very little variety. Players control every aspect of the Baldies world and directly contribute to their success or failure by manipulating their actions. The goal of each of the game's 100 levels is to kill all the enemy Baldies. Atari's programmers have created numerous unique and twisted ways to harass and kill the Baldies. The product's point-and-click interface supports easy access to all game functions and offers advice and maps for locating enemy characters. The initial 20 levels are not particularly challenging and can contribute to player boredom. The game's graphics and sound features are acceptable but fall short of CD-quality audio or SuperVGA graphics displays.

Breach 3
Article Abstract:
Impressions' $59.95 Breach 3 lacks all of the sophisticated features found in other mercenary-style strategy games. In Breach 3, players choose a campaign, select a group of marines and then go out to battle the baddies, regardless of their affiliation. The game is incredibly simple, lacking a compelling storyline or deep game play. The choice of weapons is limited and there are no new technologies or weapons to discover during game play. The graphics are unimpressive and the music is uniformly awful. Sound effects are limited to explosions, a little bit of voice and some basic blasts. There are a number of little annoyances as well. For example, the game lets players know beforehand how many enemies they will face. Breach 3 quickly devolves into a simple room-by-room search, becoming boring and repetitive.

Quarterback Attack with Mike Ditka
Article Abstract:
Digital Pictures' $49 Quarterback Attack with Mike Ditka has its flaws, but its high level of interactivity and sheer entertainment receive high praise. The full-motion football simulation game lets players take on the role of the "Rookie," who has been called in to replace the injured first-string quarterback. The game includes a lot of high-quality, full-motion video starring Coach Mike Ditka. The player must select offensive plays from a list of 10 running and 69 passing options. Players get to hike the ball, pass or run, and then watch the consequences via video. The game offers five levels of difficulty. On the downside, players have no control over defensive plays and the video clips get somewhat repetitive.
