State of the art
Article Abstract:
Companies market CD-ROMs featuring art from the world's best museums for consumers who want more information about artists and art works. Most products boast rich multimedia content though users should not expect digital reproductions of art to appear as they do in real life. Montparnasse Multimedia's Le Louvre CD-ROM is best fine art disc currently available on the market. The disc is organized well and offers users 300 works of art that are accompanied by audio commentary, a link to the artist's biography, a humorous anecdote and a zoom feature that reveals more detailed information. Microsoft Art Gallery offers 2,000 works from London's National Gallery but lacks the sophistication and depth of Montparnasse's product. E.M.M.E. Interactive's Mastery of Michelangelo forces users to hunt for the material they want and the CD-ROM lacks sufficient audio commentary.

Bringing the arcade home
Article Abstract:
Corel Systems Corp's $24.95 Arcade Mania and Time Warner Interactive's $29.95 3-D Table Sports offer users a selection of vintage arcade games. However, while 3-D Table Sports is an inexpensive winner, Arcade Mania leaves much to be desired. 3-D Table Sports includes Slam Hockey air hockey, Foosball and Power Hoops table-top basketball. The games are entertaining, easy to play and feature slick graphics. The package's multiplayer capabilities are excellent. On the downside, the package lacks a two-player option on a single PC. While 3-D Table Sports excels, Corel's Arcade Mania fails miserably. The package suffers from unoriginal games and middling graphics. The three included games are Neutrino, Nova 3 and Lunar Fox. Neutrino is arguably the best of the three, but all suffer from weak storylines and lengthy video conclusions.
