The dialectic of memory and forgetting in histories of rhetoric
Article Abstract:
The dialectic of memory and forgetting poses challenges to scholars of rhetoric. Present reality requires them to choose the approriate text and theories in the discussion of the histories of rhetoric. Furthermore, they are expected to have adequate knowledge in interpreting, contextualizing, organizing, legitimizing and judging their sources. Failure to consider history or formulate rhetorical theories could render the study of rhetoric dysfunctional.
