Philately is badly in need of good public relations. While the 14th edition of the Encyclopedia Britannica was lavish with its stamp display, now only a few sparse lines appear. In 1994, The New York Times stopped its long running stamps column. Ways collectors can spread the word, are offered.

Congressmen abusing privileges is nothing new
Article Abstract:
Stamp covers have honored important events in history, including the crash of the Hindenburg, mail delivery during the Civil War and when Russians lived in Alaska in the 1700s. During the Civil War, many Congressmen allowed soldiers to use their franking privilege.

Postage stamp collections that focus on one theme do not have to be limited to stamps. Cancellations and stampless covers that share the theme of a collection add to it. Several topical themes are discussed.
