Membrane shelter from the storm
Article Abstract:
Architect David Lloyd Jones has designed a retractable, demountable membrane shelter for open air operatic performances at Garsington Manor, England. The structure covers 200 sq meters and can be deployed at the touch of a button. It can be errected in three days and is stored between performance seasons. The second phase of the structure, a folding 'pram hood' to protect the audience seating will be constructed when funding allows. Lloyd Jones was assisted by structural engineer, Atelier One.
