A description of early US public schools and public school education is presented. A law was enacted for the first school system in 1647 by the Massachusettes Bay colony. Various milestones in the history of American public school education have been honored in postage stamp designs.

World Columbian Exposition stamps of 1893
Article Abstract:
Many stamps were issued for the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Christopher Columbus. The stamps were displayed prominently at the World Columbian Exposition of 1893. Designs of the stamps are provided.
