Article Abstract:
The 1995 American Federation of Mineralogical Societies' convention in Boise, ID, will feature several rock and gem collecting trips. A discussion of some of the sites included in the trips is presented. In addition, several tips on how to maximize one's time during the trips are discussed.

John Sinkakas's penchant for gems started when he was only seven. He considers his interest in natural history to have greatly influenced his career as a gem cutter and mineralogist. His collections were later featured in his book entitled "Gemstones of North America."

Brazil has abundant resources of gems and collectible minerals. Advice on bargain-hunting for gems and minerals are given. Mineralogists travelling to Brazil can soak up in the cultural and mineral variety offered by the country.
