How to care for batteries
Article Abstract:
AAA and bigger batteries should be rubbed with a pencil eraser before use, and fingers should not touch batteries directly before insertion into the camera. Batteries should be removed if the camera will not be used for a few months. Several other tips are also given.

Environmental legislation is causing the slow disappearance of mercury batteries because of their hazardous waste in landfills. A substitute is the alkaline battery with a copper battery adapter, but the amount of needed voltage cannot be sustained with repeated use.

Battery testers: do you need one? And if so, which kind should you buy?
Article Abstract:
Battery testers simply measure the voltage a battery puts out and cannot tell how long a battery will last. A battery tester is useful to sort bad from good batteries when they get mixed in camera bag. The best testers are the inexpensive meter types.
