Lion
Article Abstract:
Sanctuary Woods' $49.95 Lion wildlife simulation game requires gamers to think and act like the King of the Jungle. Set in the vastness of Africa's Serengeti, there are 1,800 by 1,600 game screens to scroll across. It can be played in Nomad mode with control of the one lone lion or in Pride mode where the gamer controls the dominant male lion and all the lioness in his pride. On the down side, control of the lions can be challenging since they are fairly ackward and hard to manage. The game's free-form simulation is its strong point. Committed to realism, the game makes the lions rest a significant amount since they would for 21 hours a day in real life. It has a pleasant but repetitive African sound track, sharp graphics and large video sprites.

Allied General
Article Abstract:
Halestrom's $49.99 Allied General is a sophisticated war strategy game that delivers many of the same sophisticated features of the earlier Panzer General. It lets users play the Americans, British or Russians in any one of three massive World War II campaigns. Users click on individual units to move them and on enemy units to attack. A dossier records the player's victories and defeats, and a history option tracks the battle records of core units. The scenarios and campaigns are better designed than their counterparts in Panzer General. Hardware requirements are heavier than for the earlier game. Users now need a 486 system with at least 8MB of RAM. Allied General is a worthy successor to Panzer General and an excellent value.
