New in obsidian
Article Abstract:
The properties of several forms of obsidian are discussed. Although this gem is commonly viewed as dull, an obsidian from the Jemex Mountains in New Mexico showed bright aventurescence which resulted from the presence of tiny platelets of ilmenite and hematite. Two stones have also been discovered by Dr. Jaroslav Hyrsl, and these gems contained sillimanite and indialite.
