Philatelic fraud from a century ago
Article Abstract:
Two magazines against deadbeat stamp collectors, 'Robinson's Review' and 'The Philatelic Fraud Reporter,' are described. These journals were an attempt to warn dealers about stamp collectors who cheated when stamps were sent to them on approval. Several anecdotes from the journals are recounted.

1923 earthquake affected Japanese stamp issues
Article Abstract:
The devastating earthquake of 1923 is described. It destroyed the government printing office. Emergency stamps had to be issued and they are described. Also described is a rare collector's find, a few surviving stamps commemorating the emperor's trip to Europe. The plates were destroyed.

A history of postal service in Haiti and the country's first stamp issue in 1881 is discussed. Early Haitian stamps are described. These classic stamps are not in short supply and many cost only a few cents.
