Pineapples & fossils

Article Abstract:

'Pineapples' are opals formed around fossils, found principally in White Cliffs, Australia. In the early days of rockhounding, they were cut up for their gem value and only a few landed in museums. Pineapples are now a rarity and, when one is found, it is priced high above its potential gem value.
