Reference works enhance FDC collecting

The various revisions and issues of the reference, 'Planty Photo Encyclopedia of Cacheted First Day Covers' is discussed. In 1995 volumes 3-6 were revised. These had originally been published 1930-1934. Changes found in the updated edition of the valuable reference work, are discussed.

Ship handbook is published

The Space Unit of the American Philatelic Society has issued a guidebook for collectors of materials that bear ship cancellation marks. The handbook, which is being sold for $10.00 plus postage, can help users identify a wide variety of genuine and counterfeit postmarks.

Czechoslovak fieldpost in France, 1939-1940
Article Abstract:
A Czech military outpost was set up in France in 1939 to accommodate Czech refugees fighting in World War II. A post office was established there, and there were several postage cancellation designs used during 1939-40. Various cancellations are described.
