Article Abstract:
Carvers in the 1980s and the 1990s used to experiment with variations on themes such as fantasy cuts by Munsteiner and fluid opaque forms by Lorenz. Michael Dryber, Trent Mann, Sherris Cottier Shank and Lew Wackler are some of the carvers known to create fancy gemstone cuts. Their practice and samples and prices of their works are discussed.

The training of aspiring jewelers as part of the jewelry and metalsmithing program at Rhode Island School of Design is described. The exhibition of the jewelry designed by the students of the school, at the Woods-Gerry Gallery, is discussed.
