Sonia GutierrezBecher shifted from a knitting hobby at eight years old to jewelry fabrication and design. When she felt that her art needed direction, she chose to base her works on a shell motif. She designs her jewelry with opals, rainbow hematites and other gems to achieve light and color.

Mammoths were the forerunners of the elephants, but were larger and had shaggy coats to enable them to withstand frigid temperatures. Excavated mammoth and elephant tusks were used by native Alaskan peoples to create jewelry.
