The chrysocolla-chalcedony connection
Article Abstract:
Chalcedony with a fine amount of chhrsocolla produces a beautiful quartz gem of bluish hue. Because of its appearance, it is likened to blue jade. Because chalcedony with chrysocolla is rare, demand for it is high, especially in Asia. This explains the high price of the gem.

The chalcedony gem, found mainly in Namibia, has been to known jewelllers for a long time but it is only now that the stone is gaining popularity. The stone, which is remarkable for its color blue, sells for $900 per pound.

The aquamarine which has been historically known for its color green can now be transformed into blue. The stone shifts from green to blue by putting it under heat to destroy or lessen the yellow component .
