The 'officially sealed' stamps of B.N.S
Article Abstract:
The dead letter offices stamps were issued for a limited time and were not used on every letter that left the dead letter offices. This enhances their value for collectors. Several of these stamps are described including the 2nd Canadian issue of March 1902 which had a particularly nice deign.

Research reveals historical data on Nixie markings
Article Abstract:
Nixie is a corruption of Nixes as applied to mail with insufficient addresses which was sent on to a Dead Letter Office. Nixes was the term used in the Railroad Mail Service which stopped in 1977. The change in spelling may have happened then. Railroad Mail Service regulations are discussed.
