USPS unveils 1996 stamps program

Postmaster General Marvin Runyon unveiled the Postal Service's 1996 stamp program in a ceremony held at the National Postal Museum. To appear on commemorative stamps for 1996 are Count Basie, American Indian Dances, 1996 Centennial Olympic Games, Endangered Species and Georgia O'Keefe.

First day ordering procedures are released

The US Postal Service sells first-day covers of new stamps to people who request them by mail within 30 days of the stamp's issue. First-day covers are available for the space fantasy and Percy Lavon Julian stamps.
