A bath divided
Article Abstract:
A bathroom in a California home was remodeled to have personal cleanup zones and a cozy old-house scale, with odd angles and small niches found in a vintage cottage. An interior designer reinvented the existing bathroom into a more visually interesting L-shape by bumping out an exterior wall and gave it the desired century-old look by ringing the walls with beadboard wainscoting, replacing the modern tub with a Victorian-style claw-foot model and adding brushed-nickel fixtures.

A bath from scratch
Article Abstract:
The way in which a couple have added on a luxurious master bath without sacrificing the modest scale of their cottage home near the ocean in Laguna Beach, California, is illustrated. They built a simple, squared-off two-story addition to the back of the house, made the tub the bath's focal point and placed windows in such a way that lets in lots of natural light.
