An overview is presented of how a homeowner in Birmingham, Alabama built a cost-effective deck on side of his home that made an attractive transition between houe and garden. The structure, which was designed by a local architect Bob Burns, is a classic flat deck, that is finished on all sides, has no railings, and is fronted by white columns

Russelia equisetiformis, better known as the firecracker plant, has slim, leafless branches that are covered in tubular, scarlet blossoms that bloom throughout the growing season. The plant blooms most profusely during the hottest months of summer, making it the ideal plant for decorating a garden for a Fourth of July celebration.
