American hedgerows are wilder than the manicured ones of England. These natural barriers provide food and shelter for wild life, delineate property, and act as wind breaks. Suggestions are offered for the types of trees and shrubs that would serve well as hedgerows. Tips on care are offered.

Doing battle with mice

Article Abstract:

A woman living in an 150-year-old farm house with her husband, describe a winter's discomfort when field mice move in to breed. After humane traps and snap traps proved futile, poison was finally used against the food spoilers. For the coming winter, a house cat living inside, is planned.

Salvaged materials

Article Abstract:

Salvaged materials not only reduce remodeling costs. The use of an old door, window frame or shed recycles timber and saves trees. The best salvaging sites are wrecking yards, flea markets and demolition sites.
