On silent wings
Article Abstract:
Screech owls are plump birds about the size of a man's fist. Three species are identified by their calls. They will use artificial nesting boxes, and males help with feeding and incubation. Artificial calls to lure owls out, should be used in late summer and autumn, not during nesting and courting times.

Hawks in the back yard
Article Abstract:
These predatory birds can be attracted to home feeders. The hawks that usually come are the forest hawks, the accipiters. To protect smaller birds from the hawks' predatory activity, a feeder should be placed near thick evergreens that serve as an escape cover.
