Bugs used to be tolerated more in the days when extermination chemicals were scientific fantasy. Most people consider a home to be 'respectable' only if it is bug-free, even if it means inhaling nauseating toxins. One woman enjoys their presence because they help to remind her of seasonal changes.

Article Abstract:
Food industry technology and agricultural engineering have made seasonal foods available year-round. While this is convenient and satisfying, it removes some of the excitement in anticipating the arrival of favorite items, such as shad, peaches and tomatoes.

The place called summer
Article Abstract:
Summer is no longer the much-anticipated season when people enjoyed a vacation that had been planned for months. Playing at the beach during the day, or hiking in the hills and then reading a book aloud after dinner are considered boring in the 1990s.
