Tiger of the air: the great horned owl, North America's common 'big owl,' measuring 25 inches long, is a fierce bird of prey indeed

Article Abstract:

The horned owl's hooked beak, keen vision and broad silent wing strokes make it the most aggressive North American bird of prey. It mainly eats rabbits, squirrels and small rodents. Other body adaptations of this bird include razor sharp talons and a reversible fourth toe for grasping and carrying.

Fighting for the farm: how a group of citizens simply said 'no' to development and 'yes' to small-town values, hands-on-education and rural preservation

Article Abstract:

The Leslies wanted to save the 60-acre Morris Farm near Wiscasset, ME, when they learned that real estate developers had already made an offer for it. How they and people from the surrounding small towns were able to buy the farm and set up a conservation and public education program, is discussed.
