Saving the Arizona cliffrose
Article Abstract:
Federal and state agencies and environmentalists have reached a compromise expected to prevent the Arizona cliffrose from extinction. The compromise includes a $500,000 grant to the Arboretum at Flagstaff to study the species. There may be only four populations of the plant left in the wild. Efforts to propagate were successful in only 3% of the cuttings. Federal and state agencies agreed to the study as their plans for road reconstruction threatened to destroy 15 acres of habitat. Cattle grazing has also been diverted to other areas so seedlings can be established.

Seed Savers Exchange
Article Abstract:
Seed Savers Exchange, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1975 to preserve seeds that have been passed down through generations of gardeners. Many immigrants bring seeds from their countries of origin and pass these to their children as memories of their homelands. Gardeners can join the organization and order the seeds from a catalog.
