From bark to baskets

Tree barks may be used as materials for baskets such as those traditional to Southern folk art. A family of basketmakers prefers using bark from tulip poplars for bigger baskets and watershoot bark for miniatures. They emphasize that they do not strip bark from living trees, as this would injure a tree.
