Retail Systems conference highlights information flow

Information technology was the focus at the Retail Systems '96 conference and exhibition, in Dallas, TX, during Jun 1996. According to industry experts, management technology is considered to be a key element in any retail environment, covering logistics, marketing, merchandising and store operations. Lowe's Cos Inc VP William Irons spoke about his firm's reliance on technology, which is used to make its distribution centers more efficient.

Denny throws hat in ring for Builders Square

Article Abstract:

Frank Denny has announced his intent to acquire Builders Square from Kmart Corp. Denny, the co-founder of Builders Square, sold the home center chain to Kmart in 1984. Investment analysts believe Denny's offer is too low but expects Kmart to accept the bid due to debts incurred from the home center chain. Builders Square reported a 9.3% drop in sales from 1994 to 1995.
