Nonprofit and charitable organizations are re-examining their executive pay packages in the wake of the United Way scandal over alleged excesses of its president William Aramony. The ability to attract and keep competent managers becomes crucial for survival as charities become increasingly dependent on revenue-producing activities. Some believe that a compromise that would keep talented managers in and still satisfy public scrutiny should be struck.
